Social Enterprises

What is a social enterprise?

The social Enterprise Coalition describes a social enterprise as a business trading in the market for primarily social purpose. In other words social enterprises have three mandates:

  • To market a product or service people need or want, with the intention of trading profitably.
  • To feed any profits back into the business or community rather than distributing them to shareholders.
  • To create a continuing social benefit that impacts the local community- this might be anything from providing employment opportunities for the mentally disabled to planting trees to help combat global warming.

Triple bottom line – Social /Economic / Environmental

Examples: Community Cafes / Credit unions. SASDA treat Social Enterprises as another business and provide the same level of support that we would to any other enterprise from start up to development. Ring us now and find out how we can help.

If you want to talk to others who are already running a social enterprise then why not join our online forum.
