Lets Get Plastered sets away with SASDA support

Local Shildon business "Lets Get Plastered" is booming after receiving self-employment start up support from SASDA's Working Neighbourhoods Fund Team.

Matt Jones, from Shildon, County Durham, founded Let’s Get Plastered last July after being made redundant from the Darlington-based company, Proten, where he had worked for more than five years.

Mr Jones, 34, set up the company with support from the Shildon and Sedgefield Development Agency (Sasda) – which aims to support businesses in the region and create employment opportunities – and the Working Neighbourhoods Fund.

An initial £750 grant helped cover start-up costs, such as insurance for his van, and another £750 grant six months later funded tools and equipment.

In his first nine months, Mr Jones has carried out subcontracting work for his former employer, Proten, and now he is looking to expand the business, with further support from Sasda.

He said: “I was scared when I heard I was being made redundant.

I didn’t know what I was going to do. I had thought about running my own business, but didn’t really know how to go about it.

“The first nine months have been extremely busy, and I am delighted with how things have started.”

Philip Beasley, chief executive of Sasda, said: “Redundancy can be extremely difficult to cope with and we were pleased to be able to help Matt turn what seemed like a bad situation, into a fantastic opportunity.”
