SASDA help local artists to break into the big league
Local development agency SASDA Limited based in Newton Aycliffe are helping two local artists to develop an idea into a full fledged business.
The artists, Steve and Chris Rocks, twin brothers from Tudhoe, decided to leave university after finding some local interest in their paintings. They had no idea how to turn their talents into a business, but felt they had to try. Unusually they work together on the same painting and this seemed to offer a great unique selling point which is a great asset in any business.
At the initial meeting it was clear that Steve and Chris had the raw talent and drive necessary to be successful, but lacked the basic business skills to turn this talent into a thriving enterprise.
Business Start up Advisor, Jean Thompson arranged a meeting between the two artists and one of the leading UK art publishing houses, DeMontfort Fine Art, at the SASDA offices so their work could be assessed from a commercial point of view. The publishers were quick to spot a business opportunity and the situation has now advanced to the brothers providing fifteen original paintings every month.
Once an outlet had been established it was time to start brushing up the brother's business skills and help them to set up the firm foundations and framework for the new enterprise which now has the name "The Rocks Brothers"
SASDA also arranged a grant through the Emerge business scheme, which has enabled Steve and Chris to move out of their parent's house and into a purpose built Studio, much to the relief of their mum.
Jean Thompson and Karl Bone of SASDA will continue to provide invaluable advice and support during the formative years of the business and the future looks extremely bright for The Rocks Brothers.
